Mystic Stitch-Just not happening Plus Giveaway!

I still can't believe that I am on summer break.  To be honest, I am feeling a little bit antsy right now.  I am still in work mode.  I feel that I should be working on school stuff but then there is this part that says, start organizing your house.  What is a girl to do?? Make a list of things I want to do before I go back to school in August.   I will be posting my to do list tomorrow or actually later today.  I feel better now that I have a plan.

Speaking of plans, I worked on my Mystic Stitch this week. My plan was to put in 100 stitches a day on this project each day until then end of summer.  Which was a great idea because it was up in the rotation. The problem?  I HATE stitching on this project!!!! I found myself this week finding other things to do than stitch!!!  I don't know why I hate this design...but UGH!  Have you ever just hated stitching on a project???

I am going to work on my HAED!!!  I am actually enjoying stitching on this design.  Right now, I have 9.2% completed on it...2 pages.  Hopefully, I can finish 2 more page by the end of summer.

Today, I was working in my bedroom while watching Masterpiece Theatre - Sherlock.  One item on my list was to go through a laundry basket full of magazines.  During the school year, I flip through my magazines and then toss them in the basket if there is something I want to keep out of it.  Yes, I know it would be more practical to tear it out of the magazine then and then recycled but I don't. When I tore something out I placed it in a basket. I will sort them later and store them in the appropriate binder.  Jag decided to take a nap in my basket.  He is such a helper.

He was NOT happy when Bert tried to wake him up.  As you can see, he was too tired to hold his head up.

GIVEAWAY!!!!   Winner will be picked on May 31st and GC will be ordered right away.  If the first person picked didn't follow directions, a new person will be picked.

Since I am miserable stitching this golf piece for my DH...I would like to know if there has been a piece you just hated stitching but it was a gift for someone so you just had to trudge right along.

Leave your:
Name:
Email:
name of project you hated and how long it took to finish (if you did finish it)

The prize will be a $10.00 GC to 123stitch.

Happy Stitching Ya'll!!!

I am working now on a birth announcement for my granddaughter. It is a kit that my daughter chose. Stiff as cardboard aida cloth, floss that feels like wire (definitely not DMC). The name of the kit is Sophie by Bucilla. I wouldn't say I hate it, but it takes a lot of effort to pick it up.

There have been a few, but I think the worst was Mariah's baby sampler. I still haven't gotten it finished. It was a Dimensions Gold kit and it was awful! The threads kept breaking, there were 6 different shades of tan and I kept getting them mixed up. The beads were plastic and I have to keep ordering more because they're not all cut apart and break. And then there's that darn gold slippery thread that they put into every Gold kit!

I tried to do a baby blanket for a friend of mine. I don't know why this was so daunting. Just stitch different small motifs in different squares of the blanket. I think I finally finished it when the child was a toddler and was too big for the blanket. I advised her to hang it on the wall as a wall-hanging. It's the one piece I was truly ashamed of. :( Cathryn (blueladie at hotmail dot com)

Oh I can so relate to hating a piece. I'm still stitching on my son's project Floral Retreat by Dimensions Gold. It's been over 2 years now that I've been stitching on this 4 page (solid stitching)project. I've really struggled with the french knots they wanted put in. I wanted beads - he wants the knots. In my opinion they add nothing and he and I've gone back and forth on this for the whole 2 years (I think I've even whined about it on my groups) but on a brighter note I think I've whined so much about this at my stitching group that one of the ladies said "finish the project and bring it in and I'll stitch the french knots - I LOVE doing french knots" WooHoo!!!!! So after a couple of months away from stitching (after Dragon Luck I got burned out) I picked up my needle last night with renewed energy knowing that all I had to do was stitch and not worry about what I didn't want to do. So I so get where you're coming from Vickie. Love your kitty in a box - I have one that does that as well - only she likes my floss box.

Hi Vicki

I can totally relate to how you feel- over 10 years ago I did a Stoney Creek pattern for a wedding- it was a circle of hearts(I don't remember the name) with some wording in the middle. It took me around 6 months or so to complete and by the end I was in tears-a friend of mine actually took it home one night to work on it just to give me a break. It did turn out great but....I don't like stressful stitching!

Oh, me, me, me! I'm stitching Cabin Fever for my DH. He loves it. I don't. I have not quite one of four pages done and I really wanted to get it done by Christmas... but there is no way now. Maybe next year.

Good luck with yours!!

I'm seeing a pattern here (pun intended)! Mine was also a kit, probably called Hang in There, though I called it That Darn Cat, with a cat hanging from a rope and those words, with the common complaint of cheap threads, too many color changes, Aida cloth - you know, the things we're all telling about. It turned out fine and the recipient liked it (though she complained that it was framed and not on a tote bag!), but it's done and out of my house. Now I'm going to forget about it - again.

hi Vicky, ur cat is so cute!

Project that I hate was an Indonesian Food tray, I was (still am) a new stitcher and 18ct on rustico color fabric is very challenging for me. It took me 2 months (started in Dec 2011, put it away, restarted again in January and finished in Feb 2012). I had to finish it because I ran out of project but my hands were itchy to stitch :)

many thanks; Yuana

Your WIPs look good, Vickie... even if you did hate working on the golf piece.

I had a piece I detested working on. My exDH picked it out and it was all browns and tans. Depressing! I don't remember the name of it, but it had a leafless tree silouette in the center and behind was supposedly a sunset. And it was by Cross My Heart. I never did finish it, and found it years later after the big "D". I cut the small section out of the fabric and kept the rest for another project.

I hated working on the Thomas Kinkade piece I stitched for my DIL. It was a kit & I usually don't do kits. It was supposed to be for their wedding gift. It took me five years (because I kept putting it off), but I finally finished it & gave it to them for their 5th wedding anniversary. I will never stitch another TK again.

The name of the piece I hated was the Earth Dancer, I hated doing the dreamcatcher part so it sat for years. I finally finished it and it is at the framers now. I even had to redo all the fringe for the ultra suede used for the fringe just disintegrated with the slightest touch.

I really haven't hated any pieces. If I get tired of working on something, I just pick something else. (Might be why I have over 90 WIP's)

Well, you Know the project I am STILL hating-the anniversery piece that was a bit more than Donna could do. And I can see why. THe chart is awful, the thing is HUGE and besides that it is UGLY!! As for the name of it, I HATE it so badly I couldn't even begin to tell you. Anniversery Sampler may be??

LOL, I can TOTALLY understand where you're coming from on this one, lol. I'll tell you about cursed Jesus. I decided in 2006 to stitch something for my mom. So I looked on eBay and elsewhere, and found a lovely looking Jesus pattern. (Lots of brown, but then they all have lots of brown. I hate brown, but love my mom.) I started Jan 23, 2007. I hated every stitch. I worked on it on the horrible DMC linen she picked out, then gave up on that and bought a piece of PTP Chalice. I restarted a couple of years ago (or maybe it was just last year), and worked on it on Sundays and Thursdays till I finally finished it. I finished it 2/1/2012, and was soooooooooo happy to see the back of it. I've never, ever frogged so much on a project. It sometimes seemed as if I was going in reverse, lol. I'd put in ten stitches and take out fifteen. Ugh!!! I've never been so happy to have finished something. I put in the last stitch, and threw the chart across the room, lol. Then I stomped on it, I think. It was hateful!! My name is Julie (or Julie and Yes Dear), and my email is jnemitz@cinci.rr.com. Thanks for the chance, and good luck on your own hated piece. The HAED looks lovely. I hope you enjoy your summer break, Vickie.

Piece I hated stitching: 12 Days of Christmas Tree. It was a Dimensions Gold kit and everything about it was terrible. I eventually just threw it away. So liberating!

I had a winnie the pooh kit that was a WIP for 4 years! before I just gave up and threw it away. The aida and the threads were just so dreadful, plus it was just so much yellow!

I have 2 UFOs which I started way back in 1993.. a matched pair of motifs from CSCC - they were supposed to be Christmas stockings but I thought I'd modify them into just plain motifs for birth announcements.. a Raggedy Ann and a jack in the box.. for a "to be" nephew and niece (no one in the family was married at that time so these were just cute items i was stitching!) well, the fabric was all wrong (Aida) so the stitching wasn't quite right 1/4 stitches etc.. it was practically my maiden foray into cross stitch. so they are still in my box, meant to be gifts.. and i do not know if they will ever be finished! =) maybe someday.

OMG Yes! That Noah's Ark needlepoint that I finished for my grandma. I'd never done needlepoint before, but figured it couldn't be that bad.... Wrong! First off, working with yarn is strange when you're used to working with threads. Grandma had done much less than I thought she had when I agreed. The design was printed on the canvas, but not squarely, so I had to "adjust" things based on the picture on the kit. I ended up with dolphin monsters in the water, but the rest turned out ok, I think.... You can see it in my webshots (afnovice2) in the 2010 finishes.

Where do I begin? A basket of flowers on aida. I hated, hated, hated it. It looked nothing like the cover and after about one page I gave up and tossed it.

Then there was How Does Your Garden Grow? I did the cross-stitch version and then started the specialty version. Except I couldn't get any of the stitches to lie flat. Several tries later I just frogged the whole thing and used the fabric for something else.

I have one that I'm not enjoying that's a gift. I'm not at the point where I hate it, but that's because I work on it maybe once a month and bookend it with pieces I adore.

Your stitching is beautiful. I hope you keep up with the 100 stitches a day on the piece you hate!

I hated a stamped cross stitch piece I was making for my grandma for years! It was a tree with all of her grandkids' and great-grandkids' names and birthdates. I was all done except for the bottom of the tree trunk, and it burned up in a car accident. Luckily I had taken a progress photo, so I just printed that and framed it. No way was I going to start it over again!

The giveaway has passed (I'm still catching up on blogs) but I can still answer! My sister asked me to stitch these horses running through water for her. I hate them. HATE. THEM. But I gotta do them for her. So I implemented a 10 hour rotation and I just love it. Not the project, but the rotation. Trudge through 10 hours of stitching and then move on to something you like! Works great for me :)
