A Wintery Heirloom update and a Question

So excited!!!  I finally finished page 3 of A Wintery Heirloom.  There are only 21 pages left in this design!!!! This was a hard page simply because of the tree....the tree is nothing but confetti stitches!!

Up close of the tree:

I have a question....This is my piece I am starting in January.  I bought the black and white book which came spiral bound.  There are 348 pages in it and I need to make a working copy.   The only problem is I don't want to stand at a copier for hours making said copies....So I am thinking of taking apart my book, and then 3 whole punching it and place it in a 3 ring binder....

You know how us stitchers are about our main copies of our designs.  What do you think of my idea?  I think I just need the reassurance that it is ok to take my book apart!!!

Vickie, your Wintery Heirloom is just phenomenal!

OMGOSH! I can't even imagine doing this piece. BUT, being a teacher, do you have access to a spiral binding machine? You could use that to take apart your book and re-assemble without hurting the pages.

I think you have a good idea!

Do you have to photocopy everything at once? Maybe just make a working copy of the first 10 pages you plan on working on.

I'm with Katie - I have a spiral bound chart from Scarlet Quince and am just copying each page as I come to it. Wintry Heirloom is gorgeous and I wish you many long and happy hours working on the Sistine Chapel!

Maybe you could take apart the book, feed all the pages into the copy machine, then stack the original pages back up and twist the spiral ring back in through the holes, or would this be impossible? Using a 3-hole punch on the pages sounds fine to me as long as the holes don't cover any part of the design. It would probably affect the resale value if you ever planned on selling it in the future when you're done. Good luck!

Wintery Heirloom is gorgeous!!! I am with Katie & would suggest you copy 10 pages at a time. If you don't want to do that, you could take the book apart & put it in a spiral notebook but I would put the pages in Avery sleeves to keep them from getting damaged.

I would do a few pages at a time...However,can you take it apart and put it into sleeve protectors in a notebook? I would hesitate to put holes in it, as I know I would get distracted and punch holes where they shouldn't be, LOL...I am in awe of the number of pages. Seriously!

Wintery Heirloom is beautiful!

Lots of good suggestions here... I think I would be inclined to copy just a few pages at a time also unless you could take it to a Kinkos or some place like that where they might take it apart, copy it and bind it for you again; maybe they would even bind the new copy too!

Let us know the outcome! :)

Wow Vickie. I can't imagine even thinking about stitching something that is 348 pages long. It will be a true masterpiece when done. I would just copy a few pages at a time. I would take apart and put in the plastic protectors and put in a binder. I'm excited to see your progress.

Wintery Heirloom looks really nice, Vickie.

Staples (or probably any copy store) can take the spiral out of your book and make the copies and then put it back together.

Wintry Heirloom looks great! I have to agree with everyone else, copy 10-20 pages at a time or go to a Kinkos I can't wait to see your progress

I personally would probably just buy a second one for dismantling. But then again, I'd probably still copy it as well. I never used to make copies, I'd mark all over my original and then trash it when I was done, it was almost a ritual. But now I really regret it!

As it's spiral bound, it would be easy to take apart. If it were mine, I'd disassemble it, get a 3-ring binder, and put the sheets in plastic sheet protectors. If they're printed one side only, you can put two sheets per sheet protector, cutting down on the number of them you need. Not only does it make it easier to handle and copy, but it protects the pattern. Then copy each sheet as you're ready to start it. When I do it, I copy (or print if it's pdf) the page I'm getting ready to work. Then I put the date I started the page in the upper left corner of the original pattern. When I finish the page, I put the date I finished the page in the lower right corner of the original pattern and shred the working copy. That way I've got a history of the work.

Wintery Heirloom will be just that! An heirloom! Gorgeous!! As for the Sistine Chapel pattern, I think the first thing you should do is make an appointment with a mental health care professional. LOL!!! I can't even imagine trying to stitch that!! And you know I love BAPs!! It will be gorgeous! I think Debbie K had the best suggestion. Good luck! Can't wait to see your progress on it!

I wouldn't pull the book apart, as it may jeopardize its value later, at resale. I would make copies of the pages, say , 4 or 5 at time. Over a course of a year or more, it wouldn't be that much of a burden. good luck!
